Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath urged newly appointed officers of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) to safeguard their integrity and decline wrongful instructions, even if issued by senior officials.
Addressing the appointment ceremony as chief guest, Minister Herath highlighted that a former minister responsible for foreign employment was recently sentenced to seven years in prison for a transaction involving Rs. 330,000, stressing that such corrupt practices must not recur.
Minister Herath emphasized that the Bureau bears a immense responsibility for protecting the welfare and lives of millions of migrant workers whose foreign remittances continue to strengthen the national economy.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to meritocracy, he noted that the 100 new recruits were selected purely through competitive examinations and interviews from across the country—moving away from past provincial bias—and called on them to maintain clean, transparent administrative practices.
