Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara emphasized that parties should resolve disputes through peaceful dialogue and mediation rather than immediately taking every grievance to court, noting that mounting case backlogs remain the primary challenge facing the judicial framework.

Speaking as the chief guest at the 36th National Mediation Day held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Minister Nanayakkara highlighted that the mediation process plays a pivotal role in reducing the overwhelming burden on the court system, revealing that mediation boards have successfully resolved approximately 200,000 cases to date.

He stated that over Rs. 800 million has been allocated to the Mediation Boards Commission under this year's budget to conduct delayed training workshops and expedite the appointment of mediators. Additionally, specialized land dispute mediation boards have been established across all 25 districts, while financial mediation boards have been introduced in Colombo,Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, and Moneragala to ensure swift access to justice.
