Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Parliamentarian Sivagnanam Shritharan conducted an on-site inspection in Kiranchi, Poonakary, to review lands identified for a proposed wind power project that faces strong opposition from local residents over potential land acquisition.

Community members warned that constructing the wind farm would result in the destruction of more than 5,000 fruit-bearing coconut trees, severely impacting the livelihoods and living standards of families dependent on agriculture in the region.

Following the field visit, MP Shritharan held extensive discussions with representatives of Kiranchi integrated community-based organizations and local land owners to determine future legal and community actions.

The meeting was attended by Poonakary Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sivakumar Sreeranjan, Pachchilaipalli Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Attorney-at-Law Subramaniam Suren, Poonakary Pradeshiya Sabha Member Kannathasan, party activist Kubendran, and representatives from civil society organizations.
