General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Grama Niladhari Association Neville Wijerathna announced that Grama Niladharis across Sri Lanka will gather in Colombo on August 24 to protest the government's failure to resolve long-standing professional and economic grievances.

During the demonstration, representatives plan to seek a direct meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to hand over a formal charter of demands.

Wijerathna noted that despite operating with only 12,500 officers across 14,022 divisions, officers resorted to sick-note protests on August 10 and 11 after waiting two years for solutions.

He warned that if the government continues to delay addressing their concerns, officers nationwide will completely withdraw from all official administrative duties.
