A female teacher employed at a prominent international school in Colombo and her husband have been arrested in the Madampitiya area with a haul of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "Ice," valued at over LKR 20 million.

The arrest was executed by officers of the Colombo North Regional Intelligence Unit following a targeted raid based on a classified tip-off. During the operation, police officers recovered 1 kilogram and 6 grams of crystal methamphetamine from the male suspect, while an additional 149 grams and 150 milligrams of the substance were seized from the possession of the teacher. Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the couple operated as key operatives for a notorious drug trafficker known as "Modara Mayura" and had been actively running the syndicate's distribution network for a prolonged period.

Upon interrogation, the female suspect confessed to investigators that she turned to large-scale drug trafficking to fund her ongoing legal degree at a private higher education institution. Following their production before the magistrate, the school teacher was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days under a detention order, while Grandpass and Colombo North Police are finalizing procedures to produce her husband before the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court upon the conclusion of interrogation.
