Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) activist Ananda Palitha has leveled harsh criticisms against the ruling administration, accusing it of failing to deliver on its campaign promises while exploiting the public through excessive taxation and an artificial fuel "mafia."
Addressing a press conference at the SJB headquarters in Colombo, Palitha highlighted the distress among local farmers, alleging that the government is purchasing a mere 2% of the country's total paddy production. He further claimed that despite the absence of an actual fuel shortage, the forced continuation of the QR quota system has severely crippled the livelihoods of three-wheel drivers.
Palitha urged the President to launch an immediate investigation into prominent ruling-party figures. "Leaders like Lal Kantha and Wasantha Samarasinghe, who claimed to stand with ordinary citizens during the election, have mysteriously acquired luxury mansions and high-end vehicles within a remarkably short period," he alleged.
Furthermore, the activist demanded that the government accept full accountability for a recent incident at the Negombo Prison, where 23 un-convicted suspects were allegedly shot and killed. "Those who once claimed to be the voice of the public are now speaking the language of the oppressors after taking up ministerial portfolios," Palitha stated, calling on the working class and the farming community to hit the streets in protest against the government's policies.
