Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has alleged that the suicide bombers involved in the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks had direct links to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) National List.

Addressing a public gathering in Seruwawila, the parliamentarian stated that a closer look at the political affiliations of the legal counsel who represented the suspects in court would expose the underlying connections between the defense lawyers and the current administration. He added that individuals who were allegedly involved in suppressing or shelving these sensitive investigative files have now been rewarded with high-ranking state appointments by the incumbent government.

"The current government continuously claims that the Easter Sunday bombings were orchestrated solely to propel Gotabaya Rajapaksa to the presidency," Rajapaksa remarked. "If we follow the government's own logic, it appears it was the JVP's National List that worked to bring Gotabaya Rajapaksa into power. Consequently, the JVP must accept full responsibility for these catastrophic attacks."

Suppression of Opposition and Economic Criticism

Turning his focus to the economy, Rajapaksa noted that the general public is facing severe hardships due to the ongoing economic crisis. He accused the government of abusing its executive power to suppress, silence, and intimidate opposition members whenever they raise voices inside or outside Parliament against flawed state economic policies.

Furthermore, Rajapaksa claimed that the cumulative historical damage inflicted upon the national economy by the LTTE and the JVP during past insurrections and conflicts is double the total value of Sri Lanka’s current domestic and foreign debt stock.
