Veeramani, the leader of Tamil Nadu's Dravidar Kazhagam, who visited Jaffna from India, emphasized that instead of dwelling on past events, it is essential to mature in understanding how we must prepare ourselves to achieve our rights in the future.

He made this statement while delivering the memorial address at the 97th birth anniversary commemoration of Appapillai Amirthalingam, the first Tamil to serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Sri Lankan Parliament. The event took place yesterday (Saturday, 24th) at 4 PM at the Rimmer Hall in Jaffna.

While speaking as the chief guest at this event, Veeramani further remarked:

"Sri Lankan Tamils, do not fall today where you fell yesterday. If you must fall, at least fall in a new place or forward. But I urge you not to fall at all. We will not let you fall. That's why people like us exist.

I am not saying you should go to a new place; I am saying you should not fall. What is the purpose of this event? It is to foster a new approach for future action. Roots must be found for the branches to grow. Branches come in search of roots because they are secure. To ensure that the branches remain unblemished, one must create unblemished branches, which is a tribute to the root. This is what they have done.

However, often the branches do not even think about the roots. Let the past be the past. We must learn lessons from it and revisit history.

From this, we must create transformations. Every Tamil born in this world has the right to protect their race, language, culture, and tradition. Instead of continuously thinking about what has happened, we must mature in understanding how to prepare ourselves to achieve our rights in the future.

We must guide the younger generation in this period. Ships cannot navigate the sea without lighthouses. Appapillai Amirthalingam, who is being remembered today, embraced everyone. He was a central figure for foreign leaders and Indian leaders.

We have already seen much bloodshed. We should not think that we can simply erase it and move on. We have faced many losses, which we cannot bypass. We must deeply reflect on what lessons we have learned from them.

At such a time, I believe we should not emphasize what divides us, such as 'he is different, and I am different.'

The event was attended by MP Siddharthan, leader of the Tamil Eelam Government Party and former MP Mavai Senathirajah, former MPs Suresh Premachandran, Shivajilingam, former chairpersons, former provincial council members, former members, and a large number of supporters.
